My clocks read springtime is here. But my body still feels like it’s trapped in wintertime.
The air has been exceptionally dry [it seems] this winter, and it’s taken a toll on my skin + hair.
I’ve always read about DIY moisturizing masks made of nothing but a few kitchen staples. Particularly, olive oil. It’s got anti-aging antioxidants and is super hydrating. There are a number of different recipes out there, but here’s what works for me (don’t be shy about adding/removing ingredients)…
Reach in your kitchen for olive oil, honey, an egg and a banana for some some self-pampering!
DIY Moisturizing Face Mask
Combine 1 tbs olive oil [regenerates and retains moisture], 1 tbs raw organic honey [antibacterial agent + moisturizer] + 1 egg yolk [removes oil and dirt]. Mix throughly.
Gently apply the mask with your fingertips. Keep on for 15 minutes.
Rinse well and apply your daily moisturizer.
My skin felt a lot softer after just one application, but I recommend applying it a few times a week until your skin feels back to normal. If you’re wanting even more moisture, you can also add a chopped banana to this mixture.

DIY Moisturizing Hair Mask
Combine 2 tbs olive oil [or coconut oil] + 2tbs raw organic honey [gives dull hair its shine] + 1 chopped banana [rich in amino acids that strengthen hair]. Mix throughly.
Liberally rub the mask into the ends of your hair (scalp optional). I prefer to start with my hair dry. Adjust the recipe depending on how much hair you’re treating.
Let it sit for 20-30 minutes. Helpful hint: keep your hair in a shower cap and bathe while the mask is setting.
Rinse throughly. Shampoo + condition, and allow hair to air dry (to give your ends a rest from heat).
These masks work for me personally. I don’t have any certification in health and/or cosmetology.
